La Jolla, California

Ode to the Blue Forest is a collection of unique photographic works on paper and fabric created with the cyanotype process. Cyanotype is a photographic process that creates blue and white photographs using chemistry, sunlight and water, first popularized by Anna Atkins’ British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions (!843). Poindexter created this series of camera-less photographs with fragments of giant kelp and algae she collects while freediving in La Jolla’s own blue forest. The series centers the wisdom and beauty inherent in every natural specimen, and intends to inspire contemplation of the evolving relationship humans maintain with the ocean.
