The Blue Forest: Catalina Collection
2024 - 2025
Created from specimens collected while freediving along Catalina’s shoreline, Poindexter’s works bring the island’s kelp forests - giant kelp, elk kelp, and other species - into the gallery. At the intersection of art and science, The Blue Forest reflects Poindexter’s unique practice using historic photographic processes to document fragile ecosystems while creating a sensory environment that invites reflection. By slowing down and entering the space of the blue forest, viewers are asked to consider their own connection to the sea, and to the intricate, life-sustaining world just beneath Catalina’s surface
See The Blue Forest exhibit on view at the Catalina Museum for Art & History from November 11, 2025 to October 6, 2026.
